Today, the world rights itself on its axis. The Captain and I are once again the same age. In reality. In my "Forever Forty-Five" scenario, he is two years older. I offered to let him join the club, but he declined. The Captain has always been mature. Well, not always. He was a baby once.
I didn't meet the Captain until we were in college. He was a smart, funny, normal guy, which at the time was a departure from the type I had been dating. He looked like this:
And I looked like this:
We don't know why we started dating.
We grew up in different parts of the state. He was a hockey player
while I was, briefly, a cheerleader.
But it wasn't until we became Alterna-Girl and Frat-Boy that we met.
Each year I thank the Captain's parents for bringing him into the world, so the Universe could figure out a way to get us together. For that reason, this day is one of my happiest.
Happy Birthday, my Captain.
True love. It was written in the stars.
ReplyDeleteYay! Happy birthday Captain.
"Written in the stars" is as good a reason as any we can figure for getting together! Life isn't always as random as we think...
DeleteAww! What a lovely tribute to the man you love and the love you share.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. The Captain doesn't like a lot of attention, but it's impossible to avoid it on one's birthday!
DeleteMeg, you forgot to mention that I was his first wife. Happy Birthday, Andy-Roo.
ReplyDeleteAnd perhaps a better match. You know, except for the penis.
DeleteI didn't know the Captain as a toddler, but I did know him around the time that second picture was taken. The picture doesn't lie. He really was that handsome. In fact he's still a very handsome guy with a great head of hair. It is clear to all of us that the Captain hit the jackpot when he met you. But the good fortune definitely goes both ways. You're a lucky gal! Happy Birthday, Captain!
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky! Now please, don't touch the hair.
DeleteAwww! Look at that handsome face! Thanks for posting the great photos, Megan.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Captain! Remember how convinced we were that it would be impossible to stay friends if we went to different high schools? If someone had told us that we'd be celebrating your birthday when you were really, really OLD, we'd have been shocked. (Btw, by Megan's birthday math, with which I completely agree, you are now a year older than me. So that's good.)
Many more, sweetheart!
Love, Janet
Enduring friendship is a wonderful thing! I think I got the better end of the bargain, because I got TWO friends in the deal (look down here June!), and you only got me.
DeleteI'm pretty sure by any math we're always at least a year older than you, darn it.
Captain, You have a great smile. Thanks for making Alterna-Girl happy. You guys deserve each other. In a good way.
ReplyDeleteIt's strange to see the same smile on Three. And to realize our oldest is almost the same age as when we met. (Egads!) In our hearts, I think we're still Alterna-Girl and Frat-Boy (in a good way!)
DeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteAnd, as someone fortunate enough to see your xmas card, dang those boys look like their daddy, too!
Their coloring throws some people for a loop, but Three is almost a clone. But taller, because they're all almost taller than us! Must be the fortified cereal...
DeleteThis is MY kind of love story. And Hi, I've been semi-lurking down in Mississippi.
ReplyDeleteWell thank you for de-lurking, Anony-Miss! I hope you are safe from bad weather down your way. Come back and visit anytime!
DeleteHappy Captain day to you all!
ReplyDeleteThe Captain thinks we should nominate this day for national recognition: Captain Day for everyone! Each year, the "Captain" of the house would enjoy good wishes mumbled in passing from his progeny, but be slathered in attention from his significant other, culiminating in a visit with William Shatner. (We're going to see his one man show. Can't wait.) Bill might have to tape record generic greetings if it catches on...
DeleteWhat Carrie said!
ReplyDeleteThose are some outstanding genes you both passed along down the line.
Happy Happy!!!
(We don't really understand why Dan and I started dating either, other than ya know, I needed someone to get my gas and he needed, oh wait, there IS such a thing as TMI from me.)
;)
He needed "the love of a good woman." At least that's what we call it in our house.
DeleteI like to think I celebrate him every day because he IS a cause celebre'. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Captain and the MIL and FIL and God for bringing him into our lives. And OMG am I the only one who sees Two in that baby picture? XXXOOO from the Captain's MIL.
ReplyDeleteWe love the in-laws so much, we married them twice! I think I see Sean's boy in the picture. You'd have to add a little more mischief to the smile, though!
DeleteOkay, I am LOVING these pictures. Also I want that outfit with the fox stole and that picture made the song "Dangerous" by Roxette go through my head. I think it was the hair, which is awesome.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Captain!
That look was created using copious amounts of Aqua-Net and porcelain face powder. I call it "Death Becomes Her."
DeleteI do sometimes regret divesting myself of all the cool vintage clothes and accessories. Although, the stole is the only thing that would fit me today!
Ah so cute! So funny! Happy birthday capitaine!
ReplyDeleteInternational best wishes! The Captain feels very special!
