I am outside. The sky is blue but slightly overcast, and the gentle breeze is nudging the wind chime behind me. My body is confused and annoyed, because I have forced it into shorts a solid three months before it is ready. In a moment of Lin-sanity, I have shucked my cardigan to better display my Knicks t-shirt. My hair continues to expand and curl in an attempt to store the unexpected humidity. The seabirds are calling.
I am in Florida!
The Captain cashed in his mileage and sent me to Mom. Today we are driving across the state to visit my sister Kate and her family for the weekend. My sister Erin was supposed to join us there, but she's battling an upper respiratory virus and had to cancel. We're all sad, because I love when I can see all my women at once.
But I'm here, and Mom looks good, and I'm reading! Left to my own devices I will finish a book a day, but I had to take a break, because I only brought three. I'm almost done with Natural Born Charmer, the Susan Elizabeth Phillips novel I started on the plane. I love it. I want to be Susan Elizabeth Phillips when I grow up. Okay, I really want to be her by my second novel, but I bet even SHE wasn't that good by her second novel. Realistic goals, Megan.
I am now going to use my non-reading time to write. O, the hardship.
I am in Florida!
Enjoy the break! NJ is sunny and the sky is blue, but it's only in the 40's.
ReplyDeleteI know! The Captain said he sent the kids to school in sweatshirts! It's supposed to rain here this weekend, so I'm concentrating on the family aspect. (Fingers crossed for a few more freckles before the trip is done...)
DeleteI'm glad you're enjoying yourself. I had to laugh about the SEP remark because I've read all her books. Loved them all but I definitely thought she needed better editting in the first two or three.
ReplyDeleteI will admit that I skim over some of the descriptions, but that's just because I want to get to the sex. I mean the romance.
DeleteHey!! You are in Florida! Have a wonderful time. And huge hugs to the southeastern contingent of the clan.

Love Natural Born Charmer, it's one of my favorites, (as you know) but I'm pretty sure that the day will come when you write a novel every bit as good. I'm looking forward to it.
Any day now! No, really, any day now. Okay, any month. But very soon.

DeleteFlorida? Nice! May you read many, many books and relax. Lord knows you deserve it. (Also, I'd prefer you be Megan Coakley rather than SEP, because MC is awesome. Plus, SEP is not my favorite. Just sayin'.)
ReplyDeleteMostly I admire SEP's craftmanship, to which I do aspire. But you're right, MC is pretty awesome. I fantasize about meeting an agent, and when she asks me for a comparable, I can answer, "It's most like a Megan Coakley."
DeleteI love Natural Born Charmer. In general, I love SEP's Star's books, in general. I am not as thrilled with the later stuff. Please give love and kisses to the ladies.
ReplyDeleteDone!
DeleteI love SEP, but I need to gear myself up to read them. Her characters are so human with real flaws, and you know they won't get their HEA until they've grown. That's not always the escapism I want from a romance novel, but I'm always happy I've read them and quite invested in the characters by the end.
ReplyDeleteNow, having said that, I already have SEP. I'm ready for MC, too.
Well, I hope you won't be disappointed, because MC writes contemporary romance with real, flawed humans!
DeleteHey tell that ocean-I've-yet-to-meet I said hello. You ARE near the water right? SOME water? Some sand even?
ReplyDeleteHave fun fun fun. Oh, and write a wee bit too.
I will wave to the Gulf, and tell it Julie says hello!
DeleteAND I am always thrilled to have MY women together. They are awesome, if I say so myself, not taking any credit. They evolved on their own. It's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSEP is excellent, I must say. Very good writer. Glad you're on vacay!!
