Spring Me

The trees are blooming, the frogs are singing, and the moths are hanging outside the front door trying to terrorize Two.

But this is the surest sign that Spring has arrived:

This weekend, various members of the family will play basketball, baseball, and hockey, sometimes in the same day. On Saturday morning, Five will miss baseball practice, because we have to attend his First Holy Communion retreat. At the same time, the Captain will coach Three's basketball team to victory in game two of the championship series. At two o'clock, Three will go to baseball practice, and at four-thirty I will drive him to his basketball league practice. The Captain and Two will go to five o'clock Mass, so Two can fulfill his Greeter commitment for Confirmation.

At eight a.m. Sunday morning, Two gets on a bus to go shoot paint balls at his friends. At nine o'clock, Five attends CCD. At six o'clock Five goes to baseball practice, and shortly thereafter the Captain leaves for hockey. During taxi downtime, Two has to finish a science project and pack for Europe. He leaves on Thursday with his choir to go sing in cathedrals in Vienna and Prague.

Maybe this is the official sign of Spring:

  1. HOLY CRAP, Batmom!

As if having five boys and many sports isn't enough, you have to throw religion into the mix, too? You and the Captain may have to clone yourselves. Or invent the transporter. Or (just possibly)get one or two of the boys to give up sports and become computer geeks :-) You know, just to give you a rest!

Wow. I'm tired just reading about this. Does that count as a sport?

    1. In a good news/bad news development, Two will get his driver's license in about six months. That will relieve me of some of the taxi duties, but not the stress. Because Two will be driving.

I'm pretty sure "Competitive Reading" is being considered by the Olympic committee for the 2016 summer games.

  2. Never have I been so glad that my kids are uncoordinated.

    1. Unfortunately, even if one is uncoordinated here, they still ask to play sports. But they rarely make it to the championship, so that's a bonus.

  3. Yep. I feel your pain. My boys have an AAU Basketball tournament both Saturday and Sunday, My oldest has play practice and I'm sure I'll discover that my youngest has a commitment I haven't heard about yet. Oh, and I'm having a mom's night at my house so there's cleaning and cooking to do! But still not nearly as bad as your schedule - so you get the prize Megan!

    1. AAU! Impressive.

The pile of laundry on my couch and the leftovers in the fridge say you win. Because they are going to sit in their respective spots all weekend.

  5. Today, Me and Him in the car:

Me ~ look! (As we drove past the high school.) Baseball boys!
Him ~ good day for practice. (It was sunny, very very sunny out.)
Me ~ Do you think Five's team has started theirs yet?
Him ~ Year two, it's gonna be a good one!

Ages ago my days looked very similar. ;)
(But I agree with Kewl Kate, you totally win the prize here.)

    1. Five is very excited. He can't BELIEVE he has to miss the first practice, especially because his best friend, Tom G., is on the team. Five reminded us that he is "like the Derek Jeter of Little League." I'll be looking for the second grade supermodels in the stands.

  6. My dad complained the other day that he's outnumbered, between his wife, me visiting, and the two female birds. I said--Look! I know a woman with 5 sons. So don't complain! ;-)

    1. I would like stock in Advil. At least then I would be earning some of my money back. Everything in my house is fixed with ice and Advil.

Yes, we're happy someone in our family will see Europe. Of course, I still haven't picked up those euros, or called the cell phone company to ask about international rates, or gotten that pre-paid Visa...

      Crap, I've gotta run.

  8. I have to go take a nap now.

Oh, wait, first I have to go fetch a kid . . .

You make me really glad I stopped at 2! Although I know you wouldn't trade in 3, 4, or 5 for the world.

    1. On any given day, I would most definitely trade in 3,4,or 5 for the world. Actually, right now I would mostly trade 2 for a warm part, possibly an island, with attractive manservants. When all those things come together, most of the pack will probably be gone anyway. So never mind.
